Mining-mill.com recently identified 5 of the biggest Canadian mining companies. Here, in NO-particular order, 5 biggest canadian mining companies, taken from Forbes’ Global 2000 list of the 2017 world’s biggest public companies and Price Waterhouse Cooper mine 2017 report. Some listed companies below also include in Top 25 biggest mining companies in the world.

Barrick Gold

Toronto-based Barrick Gold is the largest gold mining company in the world and one amongst another 4 biggest Canadian mining companies. The company also mines and explores silver, copper and nickel. Barrick, which produced 5.52 million ounces of gold in 2016, has reported $8.6bn sales in 2017 and $649m profits. More than 75% of the company’s gold production comes from the Americas region, including Argentina, Canada, Dominican Republic, Peru and the US. The company also has mining operations and projects in Australia, Chile, Papua New Guinea, Saudi Arabia and Zambia. Barrick had more than 11,000 employees as of 2016 end.

Teck Resources

Teck Resources Limited also listed as one from 5 biggest Canadian mining companies. Known as Teck Cominco until late 2008, Teck Resources Limited is a Canadian metals and mining company. Teck is Canada’s largest diversified resources company, it was formed from the amalgamation of Teck and Cominco in 2001. Teck’s principal products at 2017 are coal, copper, zinc, with secondary products including lead, silver, gold, molybdenum, germanium, indium and cadmium. In 2017 this Canadian mining company record $7bn sales and $785m profits so far.

Goldcorp

Goldcorp Inc. is a gold production mining company where their main office is in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The company employs about 15,800 people worldwide, engaged in gold mining and related activities including exploration, extraction, processing and reclamation. Goldcorp’s operating assets include four mines in Canada, two mines in Mexico, and four in Central and South America. Their sales in 2017 at $3.5bn and followed with $167m profits. This milestone took biggest Canadian mining companies.

Agnico Eagle Mines Limited

Agnico Eagle Mines Limited is a Canadian-based gold producer with operations in Canada, Finland and Mexico. The company also reported has an exploration and development activities extending to the United States. Agnico Eagle grow from a single-operation gold producer (LaRonde) to a much larger company consisting of 6 mines in total (LaRonde, Goldex, Lapa, Kittilä, Pinos Altos, and Meadowbank) later on. In 2016, Agnico Eagle record revenue $2.875bn and net income $214m. Agnico Eagle is employer for around 8,400 workforce in summary.

First Quantum Minerals Limited

First Quantum Minerals Ltd. is a Canadian based mining and metals company whose principal activities include mineral exploration, development and mining. Without a doubt, First Quantum Minerals is join in the club as one of biggest Canadian mining company. Its main product is copper, which accounts for 80% of revenues as of 2016. First Quantum currently operates mines and development projects in Africa, Australia, Finland, Spain, Turkey and Latin America. In 2016 First Quantum produced 539,458 tonnes of copper, 23,624 tonnes contained tonnes of nickel, 214,012 ounces of gold and 28,862 tonnes of zinc. Copper was responsible for 80% of revenues, gold 10%, and nickel 7% respectively.

As of December 2017, First Quantum operates six mines. Kansanshi mine, near Solwezi in Zambia, with main product is copper, and gold as by-product. Guelb Mohgrein Mine, near Akjoujt, Mauritania, main product is copper and gold as by-product. Sentinel Mine, a copper mine in north-west Zambia. Çayeli mine, a copper/zinc mine in eastern Turkey. Las Cruces mine, a copper mine in Sevilla, Spain. Pyhäsalmi mine, a copper/zinc mine in central Finland. Last three mines are acquired through the take-over of Inmet Mining Corporation. In addition, First Quantum also developed the big open pit copper mining in Cobre, Panama.
